Is global warming for real or is it all hype? How will a rise in temperature affect you and me? As world leaders gather at Copenhagen, we at CNN-IBN are presenting a special line-up of shows, blogs and guest chats which simplify the complex debate surrounding climate change. This maybe Planet Earth's worst crisis, will the summit at Denmark be a turning point or a failure? And what do these negotiations mean for India? These are some of the questions we will be exploring on CNN-IBN through the 'GREEN WEEK'. During this week we trek upto the Gangotri glacier - could it actually be melting? We dive to the bottom of the sea - could corals actually be dying with a rise in temperature? And finally what do our CNN-IBN news anchors do to go green? We meet some of them to find out. We also interact with the Minister of State for Environment Mr Jairam Ramesh in a candid chat to find out what will India's stand be at Copenhagen.
In all this, viewer feedback welcome, especially, any ideas on what all of you are doing to go green!

Copenhagen Climate Change Summit: Where does India stand?

Worldwide, idle computers alone generate 45 million metric tons of CO2, enough gas to fill 810,000,000,000 (810 billion) balloons
If you change just 3 light bulbs to CFL you will save 136 kg of CO2
If you adjust your thermostat by just one-half degree Celsius during winter and summer months, the average household can save 907 kg CO2.
The largest source of CO2 emissions is from the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas in power plants. In countries like the US electricity production is the single largest generator of CO2 emissions. India has cleared more than 156 thermal power projects in the last 2 years . If CO2 emissions are not controlled the temperatures around the globe will increase by 4-5 degrees C.
Around 1.5 million tons of plastic are expended in the bottling of 89 billion liters of water each year
Over 100,000 marine animals die every year from plastic entanglement. Nearly 17,000 plant and animal species are known to be threatened with extinction, while more than 800 have disappeared over the past 500 years
Every year the world loses nearly 13 million hectares of forest to deforestation. Brazil and Indonesia have the highest rate of deforestation.
